School of Business, University of South Dakota Vermillion, SD The building is intended to have powerful organizing effect on University of South Dakota campus by establishing a landscape that connects the currently disparate north and south parts of the campus with a newly-defined quadrangle and path system. The siting establishes new vistas on campus, locates an outdoor classroom for both the business school and the broader campus community, and provides an organizing landscape that in turn designates sites for future university buildings. Inside, a large atrium functions as a gathering space, entry hall, and a dynamic zone of circulation with dramatic stairs and bridges. The design fosters interdisciplinary encounters between students, faculty, business community members, the administration and the university. Glass is used throughout to create visual transparency that is conducive to the easy flow of information and ideas.
