Gemini, an international management consulting firm, commissioned Charles Rose and Wellington Reiter to design a 35,000-square-foot prototypical "office of the future" in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The project served as a prototype for Gemini offices globally and led to projects n Oslo, London, and Johannesburg. The design challenges conventional notions of traditional office structures and re-imagines Gemini's office as a non-territorial, non-hierarchical "home base," with both actual and virtual support services and workspaces for office-based staff and Gemini's mobile field consultants. The design grew out of extensive study of the client's organization and culture and combined emerging workplace technology, recent and historical office design precedent, ergonomics, mobile workstation design, and non-hierarchical spatial arrangements.
