Scope: Headquarters for biopharmaceutical company

Rhythm Pharmaceuticals is a Boston-based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing drugs for the treatment of rare genetic obesity disorders. After experiencing rapid growth, catalyzed by the success of a new breakthrough drug, Charles Rose Architects assisted Rhythm in selecting a new downtown Boston location. The space we chose not only met their budgetary requirements and need for flexible space to accommodate future growth but offered unobstructed views of the Boston skyline. The skyline plays a strategic role: offering a sense of well-being to current employees, a positive impression to investors, and workplace appeal for both employee retainment and recruitment.

The design creates a flexible workplace that allows for continued growth. Our planning strategy: balance enclosed private offices and with an open plan work environment outfitted with modular workstations. Lounge areas and modular workstations support a collaborative culture, and an open kitchen serves as the office’s nexus: a social hub, collaboration zone, and an informal gathering space for touchdown meetings. Private offices are located along the interior walls, creating large open areas and abundant access to natural light.

The design features custom-designed painted murals: a cost-effective strategy to create an office identity, while also tying together the yellow, blue, and grey interior palette. Materials and finishes include reclaimed wood, stainless steel, glass, and porcelain tile. Furniture also plays an important role in the color palette, adding accents of green, orange, yellow, and blue.
